Diagnoses and resources
ASK+ is built for families with children who have autism, ADHD, tics/Tourette syndrome, or language/communication difficulties — but the app doesn't diagnose anything. Here's short, factual information about these conditions, with links to international patient/interest organizations that can help further.
Autism
Autism (autism spectrum disorder) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference affecting communication, sensory processing, and social interaction. Needs and strengths vary a lot from person to person. Support such as visual structure and AAC can make a big difference.
- Autism-Europe — European federation of national autism associations, advocating with EU institutions.
- World Autism Organisation — A globally-focused autism organization with member associations across several continents.
ADHD/ADD
ADHD affects attention, impulse control, and activity level — the inattentive type is often called ADD. It often co-occurs with autism, and many of the same structuring tools help both.
- ADHD Europe — European umbrella federation of ADHD patient and family associations.
Tics and Tourette syndrome
Tics are quick, repetitive movements or sounds. Most are involuntary and often fade on their own, but when several tics occur together over time, it may be Tourette syndrome. ASK+ has its own tic log to help spot patterns over time.
- TTAG — Tics and Tourette Across the Globe — A worldwide network of national Tourette syndrome associations and researchers.
Language and communication difficulties
Some children struggle to develop spoken language, or to understand and use language — for several different reasons. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) — pictures, symbols, speech aids — is exactly what this app is built around.
- ISAAC International — The worldwide umbrella organization coordinating national AAC associations.
